I am buying a used 2016 Mustang GT with 12,000 kilometres from a Ford dealer.
It had an oil change done at that dealer in January. I have asked for proof of the vehicle’s first oil change that was apparently done at a Jiffy Lube, because Ford of Canada has advised me that I need to provide evidence that the car was properly maintained.
The manager at the Jiffy Lube cannot give out personal information, but suggested looking it up on CarFax. According to Carfax, the oil change was done there at 7,300 kilometres. I don’t know what kind of oil the Jiffy Lube put in the car. Does if matter if they put regular oil in it at 7,300 km? – Dennis
If you were to purchase this vehicle privately or even from an independent used car dealer I could possibly understand the required vigilance.
However, the responsibility of confirming the oil change history should fall to the dealer prior to you accepting the car.
Considering that only one oil change is in question, I don’t believe there will be any issues. But, should a need arise that proof of maintenance is required for a related warranty repair, I’m sure the dealer service department could call the Jiffy Lube location.
Ford Canada already knows who the previous owner was, so they can easily confirm products used and the mileage intervals. I’m not sure why they are putting you through these extra steps.
