The COVID-19 pandemic altered many plans in 2020, including The Globe and Mail’s annual gala in celebration of Report on Business magazine’s CEO of the Year winners. The program honours five chief executives in five unique categories, all of whom faced an especially difficult task this year in navigating their companies through the pandemic in Canada.
In lieu of an in-person gathering, The Globe wanted to provide an opportunity for its audience to learn more about the five honorees by hosting a virtual webcast earlier this month. All five CEO of the Year winners for 2020 participated in one-on-one interviews with members of The Globe’s award-winning newsroom, and discussed their own unique approach to leading the C-Suite in a pandemic and beyond. Hosted by Report on Business magazine’s Editor James Cowan, the webcast also honours the 2020 overall CEO of the Year award winners – the 4.1 million small business owners across Canada who have had to respond to a difficult set of circumstances brought on by COVID-19. While the top CEO of the Year honours usually go to one individual, as Cowan noted during the webcast, a year like no other deserved “a winner like no other.”
