On May 3, The Globe and Mail hosted the Best Executive Summit, an extension of the Report on Business Best Executive program. The annual award initiative was set up to recognize and celebrate 50 exceptional non-CEO leaders at the SVP, EVP and C-Suite levels.

Select executives from the list joined The Globe for three interview sessions, each offering unique insights on how they positioned their companies for transformative growth in 2021, and where their focus lies for 2022.

Temur Durrani, technology reporter at The Globe and Mail kicked off the day’s discussions by speaking with Paul Draffin, Canadian Tire’s chief supply chain officer, Kelly Martin, chief financial officer at LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services and Steve Burmaster, vice president of sales at Partake Brewing. All three executives shared their stories on guiding their teams through crisis and what they learned along the way.

Dayo Kefentse, content strategist with The Globe and Mail’s Content Studio spoke with Nancy Nazer, chief human resources officer at OMERS about maintaining corporate culture amid hybrid and remote work conditions. Ms. Nazer shared her leadership strategies for building thriving teams and workplace culture.

Dawn Calleja, editor of The Globe’s Report on Business Magazine rounded out the day’s discussions by hosting a panel on how leaders are looking ahead to position themselves for future growth. Shazia Zeb-Sobani, vice president of customer network implementation at Telus Communications; Tsering Yangki, head of real estate finance and development at Dream Unlimited Corp.; Melissa Carvalho, vice-president of customer and enterprise identity and access management at RBC; and Linda Lupini, the global vice president of employee experience at Copperleaf shared the trends they are focusing on as the economy shifts.
