My dad had this theory that a kid's first car should be a clunker. That way, we'd learn how to repair things. What's under the hood by comparison today is a mystery, but that doesn't mean the kid driving the car shouldn't take care of the body.

So when the darling daughter drove up in grandma's old car with the peeling windshield trim pinched in the door jam – a lesson needed to be passed down.

Saying "it's fine" will not keep rain from oozing into the body. The trim needed a quick repair, so she tested GOOP, the all-purpose adhesive. First, she left the car in the sun to let the kinks in the plastic soften, then pulled it into the garage out of the heat. Following the directions, she applied a bead of glue to both surfaces and persuaded the trim to return home. A couple of clamps gripped it for the rest of the day.

After a week of commuting, the repair looked as good as new. And best part – she was proud of her effort.
