my car: chris hyndman

CBC host Chris Hyndman from CBC’s Steven and Chris. He just purchased a Jaguar.

Chris Hyndman and Steven Sabados are the dynamic decorating duos behind CBC's hit talk show, Steven and Chris.

Together, the style experts dish out the dirt on everything from fashion and finance to home decor and health. Hyndman shares the same design philosophy with Sabados, his partner both on- and off-screen – simple, understated elegance.

And that principle holds true for his cars, too. That's why Hyndman drives a 2014 Jaguar XF.

Why did you buy a Jaguar?

Steven bought it for me. I'm not really into cars, but Steven is. So he went out and decided on this one for me. He brought me into the showroom and said, 'Do you like this car?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Well, it's yours.' And that was it.

What does a Jaguar say about you?

It's quiet and elegant looking – I like that because it's opposite to my personality.

Do you know what's under the hood?

I haven't got a clue. While we were at the dealership, they opened the hood and I said: 'Oh my God, it's the most beautiful engine I've ever seen.'

What was your first car?

I had this bottom-of-the-line Datsun. It was a second-hand car. My mom bought it for me. It was silver with a red interior and four doors. It had lots of rust on it. It had lots of bumps and scratches on it because I hit everything in sight. I'm a terrible, terrible driver.

What's your worst driving mishap?

I had a car accident when I was doing my driver's test.

What happened?

It was raining. I was driving along and the back of the car just started to fishtail so I hit the car next to me. It was a Mercedes, actually – a beautiful woman in a Mercedes. And I'm in a horrible car trying to get my license at the age of 17 and I hit her. There wasn't much damage though. Needless to say, they didn't give me my license.

What's your driving record like – any speeding tickets?

I've had hundreds and hundreds of them, but not in this car, yet.

What's your worst driving story ever?

Every day is a bad driving story. I'm not a great driver and I don't like driving. If I could, if I was Oprah, I'd have a driver. I'm easily distracted. I get very bored in the car. I spend time looking in the mirror or chatting on the phone or looking at my texts – oops, I shouldn't say that.

If I can bring you the keys to any car what would it be?

Maserati two-door. Navy blue with a tan-leather interior. If I can afford to buy it, I can afford to pay for any accidents.
