My son has a 2011 VW Jetta, standard, and the dealership charges $90 for an oil change. He doesn't want to void the warranty, but also doesn't want to go bankrupt. What alternatives exist and what is the recommended oil for his car? – Mark

He needs proof that he has followed the Volkswagen recommendations.

That will require receipts that show the proper oil was used and the mileage at which it was changed.

Find a reputable shop that will use oil meeting Volkswagen's 504.00 standard.

Make sure they can supply a receipt showing the necessary information: the date of change, specifics about the oil used and the mileage.

Keep the receipts on hand in case of a warranty claim down the road.
