There are many factors to consider when it comes to vehicle ownership - it's not simply about the purchase price and how cool the car looks. Vincentric, a Michigan-based automotive data firm, crunched the cost-of-ownership numbers and, on Tuesday, announced its fifth annual Best Value in Canada awards, naming Toyota, Mazda and Ford as its top mainstream brands with Volvo and BMW as the top luxury brands. Additionally, Toyota won eight of the 33 individual vehicle segments. Two of those category wins were for Lexus, Toyota's luxury brand. Mazda and Volvo captured four categories while BMW and Honda won three, as did Ford - all for its trucks. "The data analyzed to determine our awards showed the broad range of high-value vehicles in the Canadian market," said David Wurster, Vincentric president, in a statement. Vincentric analyzed eight different cost factors: depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel consumption, insurance, maintenance, repairs, and the opportunity cost of not investing your money elsewhere. Each vehicle cost was evaluated in all 10 provinces plus the Northwest Territories. Here is the top vehicle in each of the 33 categories:
