While tens of thousands of people pack the grandstands at raceways, thousands of others drive pickup trucks, vans, campers and school buses right into the infield - the inner circle that cars race around. To get a better view, many vehicles are equipped with homemade observation decks.

Fans pack the infield at the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May 2015. However, if you look closely at the stands, there are empty seats.
