The new Volvo XC90.The Globe and Mail

For the first time in 12 years, a new Volvo XC90 has been revealed to the world, this time at a global press event on the outskirts of Stockholm.

This flagship SUV has also been tasked with reviving the entire brand, which was sold by Ford to Chinese automotive conglomerate Geely Holding Group in 2010.

The past four years have been spent investing in factories and developing new models – the Volvo XC90 is the first of these. The launch version, appropriately dubbed the First Edition, is an XC90 T6, which features an all-new, supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The base price for the T6 will be $60,700. The First Edition T6 rings in at $81,500 – but that figure includes every option in the Volvo order book and then some.

There will only be 1,927 examples of the First Edition offered to customers around the world. The 2016 Volvo XC90 will arrive in dealerships across Canada in mid-April, 2015.
