Hyundai Tucson

This week we went mining for deals in the February sales numbers and up popped Hyundai Canada.

Hyundai had a brilliant January, with sales up 11.6 per cent. While most Hyundai models had a good month, there were exceptions and the Tucson compact SUV was one of them: sales down 16.8 per cent.

The sales incentive game is tactical, driven by whatever is happening in the marketplace. When one model is moving slowly, a typical tactical response is to juice that product with various promotions and sales incentives.

And so it is for the Tucson. Hyundai now has a $2,500 cash incentive on the table and it can be combined with 2.99 per cent financing. That is a tidy deal on very solid and nice looking crossover wagon.

Meantime, Kia Canada is anxious to keep sales of the Forte humming at a time when this compact car is approaching a complete engineering and styling makeover. Thus, if you pay cash, Kia has up to $4,500 or more in sales sweeteners on the table.

Overall, Kia sales in Canada were up nearly 24 per cent last month. Buyers were enticed by the Kia's expanding lineup, of course, and many deals were sealed thanks to Kia's "Don't Pay until Spring" payment deferral program on select 2012 and 2011 models. Kia also has announced 0.0 per cent financing on all 2012 and 2011 models.

At Nissan, well, January sales were up nearly 25 per cent, but not every model was a winner. Juke sales were down 33 per cent and Maxima was down 27 per cent. Ah, the Maxima. It has a $3,000 factory-to-dealer rebate on offer.

Which brings us to Chrysler, where sales were up 22 per cent in January. One reason why is the interesting offer on the Chrysler 200 sedan. The $19,995 base version is being sold with a $3,500 factory-to-dealer rebate. So a $20,000 four-door sedan looks more like a $16,500 one.
