A consortium that includes Bombardier Transportation has received the green light to supply an additional 210 rail cars worth $1.3-billion (U.S.) to the Greater Paris commuter network.
As a consortium member responsible for a third of the order, the Berlin-based division of Quebec's Bombardier Inc. will realize $417-million from the order, the company said Friday.
Bombardier said the consortium will supply the 210 double-deck commuter train cars to line A of the Reseau Express Regional under an option agreement exercised by the French concern. In April, the RER placed a firm order for 60 MI09 trains.
Deliveries will take place between 2014 and the end of 2016.
Bombardier will supply each five-car train set's three intermediate cars. It will design and fully assemble the cars at its manufacturing site in Crespin, northern France.
Bombardier's site in Crespin is the largest industrial rail site in France, employing more than 2,000 workers, including 500 engineers and technicians.
