Garda World Security Corp. said Tuesday it had been awarded a $100-million (U.S.) contract from the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office to provide security services for the British Embassy and its offices in Iraq.
Under the three-year contract, Garda World will provide mobile security for embassy personnel travelling throughout Iraq as well as static security to the British Embassy in Baghdad and embassy offices in Basra.
"This most prestigious contract is a reflection of the experience, dedication and professionalism of our staff and we look forward to working with the FCO in its important mission in Iraq," said LeMarque Sheppard, president of GardaWorld, the global risks division handling the contract.
"GardaWorld is committed in its support for peace and reconstruction efforts in Iraq and throughout the Middle East, working with the Iraqis and the international community to deliver stability and improvements to the lives of people in the region," he added.
Montreal-based Garda provides cash logistics, global risk consulting and physical security services around the world. It employs 45,000 people.
Shares in the company rose 28 cents or 3 per cent to 9.38 in early trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
