Magellan Aerospace of Kitchener, Ont., has been awarded a $60 million (U.S.) contract to supply material for a new generation of American fighter jet.
The company will supply machined titanium components for three variants of the F-35 Lightening II aircraft.
The contract, announced Thursday at the Paris Air Show, is expected to be filled over the period of 2009 to 2015.
In 2001, the U.S. Dept. of Defence selected Lockheed Martin of Fort Worth, Tex., to build the F-35 jet for the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Marines and for export to U.S. allies.
Northrop-Grumman in El Segundo, Calif., and BAE Systems (British Aerospace) in Samelsbury, U.K. are principal partners in the project.
Magellan Aerospace Corp. designs, engineers, and manufactures aeroengine and aerostructure assemblies and components.
The company operates throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and India.
