The eyewear chain uses SoftLayer's global data center network to grow overseas operations

SEOUL, South Korea, Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Davich Optical Chain Store, the largest eyewear retail chain in Korea, has adopted IBM cloud to expand its operations overseas and improve internal information management processes.

Founded in 1986, Davich Optical currently has 170 branches across the country. With a strong client base in Korea, the company is now planning to expand its operations in the overseas markets, especially in the US. As part of its plans to expand, Davich Optical wanted to develop a robust enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for its operations. The ERP system will help Davich Optical improve its business operations, meet regulatory requirements, and offer better customer service.

Davich Optical selected SoftLayer, an IBM Company, to host the ERP system for its ability to quickly deploy enterprise grade, highly secured cloud infrastructure. The company is planning to use the cloud environment to store and manage enterprise and customer data. With a cloud based ERP system, the information can be easily shared and accessed by the end users.

"Davich Optical aspires to establish itself as a global brand and the U.S. is a key market for us. To support our expansion, we were looking for a partner with global cloud capability, a strong footprint in the US, and that can provide the right services quickly," said Byeong-Yoon Gwon, Manager of Davich Information System. "We found SoftLayer, with its data centers across the world and fast services, is the right fit for our requirements."

The company will use bare metal servers from SoftLayer to run its ERP solutions. SoftLayer is a leading infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider offering bare metal servers with on-demand ordering and automated deployment. SoftLayer bare metal servers can support single-tenant environments and provide superior performance, especially for data-intensive workloads.

In addition to SoftLayer's powerful and secure infrastructure, Davich Optical will also benefit from its lower networking costs, with free data traffic service between the internal systems and data centers. SoftLayer is the only cloud IaaS provider offering unlimited private network traffic between all its facilities to significantly reduce users' bandwidth costs.

"With many Korean companies expanding their operations in overseas markets, cloud provides them with an affordable and secure technology platform," said Seong-Min Kim, SoftLayer business executive of IBM Korea's Global Technology Service (GTS). "IBM, with its extensive cloud solutions, is helping Korean companies like Davich Optical achieve their global aspirations. We are excited to work with Davich Optical and enable them to create a stronger presence in the global market."
