Learning bond basics

Here’s a very good primer on bonds that includes data on bond and stock market returns going back to 1988. You’ll also see what portion of bond returns came from interest payments and what portion came from price changes. Bonds rise in prices when interest rates fall, and they fall in price when rates move higher. Looking ahead a year or two, rates will rise.
