I vouch for vision boards. Some of the most amazing experiences in my life – appearing on Oprah, starting a business and hosting a show – all began by simply tacking a picture to a bulletin board. Yes, action and elbow grease follow, but the vision board helps to clarify what it is you want, and then provides added motivation until you get there.

This month, I'm taking my vision board online with Pinterest.com. If you're already a part of the Pinterest community, then you surely share my obsession for this site. If you're not, check it out. It's a central spot to organize all of the beautiful and inspiring things you find online, from websites or boards of other people who share your interests.

You can create and nickname each board based on interests as well as personal, lifestyle and financial goals. There are also endless cost-saving DIY ideas on the site for weddings, baby's rooms, costumes, home decor and dining. Type in what you need and Pinterest, or someone in the community, has the answer.

It's also a smart spot to give and get gift ideas by searching the boards of friends and family. Or, use the gifts tab to find items for sale from $5 and up.

It's free to get started, but you have to request an invite to join. Even if you are skeptical of the vision-board concept, try it anyway.

Worst-case scenario is you've assembled some eye candy that makes you feel good. Best-case scenario, you're reaching your goals more quickly as well as finding daily inspiration and cost-saving alternatives for every area of your life.
