Yellow Media plans to create about 170 new Montreal-based information and digital technology positions as the directories publisher transitions to an online media company.

But Yellow Media also said about 125 clerical positions will be moved to other company offices across Canada from Montreal, as the company reorganizes various office locations into specialized teams.

"We continue to align our resources in accordance with the transition and expansion of our digital products and services," Marc Tellier, president and CEO of Yellow Pages Group, said Tuesday.

"The substantial growth of our digital teams and centralization of our service teams reiterates our commitment to accelerating our digital transformation and to providing our clients access to quality service and expertise," Mr. Tellier said in a news release.

It was not immediately clear if there will be any job losses.

The 170 new positions will support web and mobile-based products and the changing needs of small and medium-sized businesses.

Yellow Media builds websites for small– and medium-sized businesses and provides such services as e-mail marketing, search engine marketing and video production.

Also, the clerical arm of the company's print publishing operations in Blue Bell, Penn., will also be relocated to YPG's offices in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Toronto.

Daily operations including client account services will be unaffected by these changes, the Montreal company said.

Yellow Pages Group employs about 2,800 people and says it services more than 300,000 local businesses.
