Snapchat Lets Parents See Who Their Kids Are Messaging

Yolowire - Wed Aug 10, 9:20AM CDT

Children and teens be warned! Your parents can now see who you’re messaging on %Snapchat ($SNAP).

Snapchat has launched new parental controls that allow adults to see who their children are contacting on the popular messaging app.

The parental control features, called %FamilyCenter lets parents view their children's lists of friends and who they have messaged in the past week.

However, parents cannot see the content of the messages, only who their kids have contacted.

Snapchat said that in the coming weeks it will add another feature that will enable parents to easily view new friends their children have added to the messaging app.

The company said this is just the beginning and that it plans to add even more parental controls this fall, though it hasn’t elaborated on what those controls might involve.

Snapchat has come under scrutiny from Congress in the U.S. over the impact that its social media app is having on children and teenagers. Lawmakers in America have accused the Snapchat app of exposing children to drugs and mature content.

Snapchat’s stock is down 78% this year and trading at $10.16 U.S. per share.
