Club Med, the ultimate family vacation experience

Sasha Exeter @sashaexeter

I have wanderlust in my veins and I used to worry that after having a baby, I would not be able to relax on vacation and enjoy luxury experiences. But our recent visit to Club Med's Punta Cana resort proved to be quite the contrary. With almost 70 years of experience creating dream holidays for families and couples, Club Med is truly a master of the all-inclusive formula. The company knows exactly what it takes to help you reconnect and unwind.

With the temperature steadily dropping, our sunny getaway with baby to the Dominican Republic with Club Med could not have been more perfect.

STAY

Club Med Punta Cana – Tiara Exclusive Collection Space

Being a new parent, we craved privacy and space. Luckily, Club Med Punta Cana offers exactly that through its Tiara Exclusive Collection Space, an area of private suites within the larger resort. By booking a Tiara suite, we were eligible for a ton of exclusive services and amenities, including private airport transfers, separate check-in, private concierge service, exclusive lounge, oceanfront infinity pool and priority booking for activities and excursions, and so much more.

The oceanfront family suites really blew our minds. Ours was one of just 32 spacious, pastel-colored bungalows that lined the Caribbean Sea. Coffee (and warm milk for Maxie) on the terrace quickly became our morning routine.

There was a separate bedroom and bathroom for Maxie, so our evening could go on long after she was in bed. Plus, our suite came equipped with all the child-care necessities – crib, stroller, high chair, change pad, bottle warmer and a fridge.

If that’s not enough, Club Med Punta Cana is a short seven-kilometer drive from the Punta Cana airport, which meant no long bus ride for our baby. We were beachside with a cocktail within a half hour of passing through customs.

RELAX AND UNWIND

A pampering at Club Med’s Spa by L’Occitane should be a requirement for every parent staying at the resort. Nestled in a private oasis on the other side of the 40-hectare property, I was pampered, groomed, buffed, scrubbed and massaged.

I took full advantage of the chance to have a massage inside one of the private beachside palapas, letting the sound of the waves transport me into a deeply rested state. I can honestly say that the lavender deep tissue massage was one of the best treatments I’ve ever received.

I was glad I left some extra time before and after my treatment to enjoy some tea and the breathtaking view from the relaxation room.

KIDS CLUB

The amenities for kids sets this resort apart from every other all-inclusive hotel. Without it, “me time” would be virtually impossible. The Club Med “Kids Club” program is genius. Run by qualified, multilingual child-care specialists, children from as young as four months to 18 years can take part in the extensive daily programming. 14-month-old Maxie’s time in Baby Club was filled with nature walks, beach time, arts and crafts, and swimming.

Child care after hours was a breeze, too. Pajama Club is offered to help kids wind down before bed. In-suite babysitting services are also available and this mama took full advantage so I could enjoy a nightcap after dinner.

MUST-SEE
AND DO

Club Med Creactive by Cirque du Soleil is the coolest concept, designed to entertain the entire family. The space is a fully functioning circus school for adults and kids, teaching skills like trampoline, aerial silks, bungee acrobatics and juggling. On Monday nights, the space comes alive with a Cirque performance under the stars.

La Cave, the resort’s wine cellar, has phenomenal mixologists on staff who know their way around premium spirits. The staff took their time helping us find the perfect drink, whether an afternoon gin and tonic or an after-dinner digestif.

Lastly, the theme nights at Club Med Punta Cana were pretty fun. There’s the Friday night gala, red and white night and Tuesday’s beach party.

If a little sunshine with your family is on your wish list this season, Iʼd look no further than Club Med Punta Cana.
