Some of our biggest challenges today include climate change, political polarization, social isolation, economic marginalization – and a host of other interconnected issues. Research and innovation are essential not only for economic advancement but for addressing these complex social and environmental challenges.
The key is to unlock a new field of impact: social innovation. We need to realize the immense potential of bringing a research and innovation lens to social challenges. The Canadian innovation community should be prioritizing social innovation in how funding programs, partnerships and the wider ecosystem are built. There is a huge opportunity for corporations and innovators to partner with the people and organizations working to create a more equitable, resilient, sustainable and just world.
As a hub for people and organizations focusing on social innovation and systems change strategies, the Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) provides workspace, community, collaboration and incubation for those working to tackle societal challenges through measures that range from arts to activism and fishing to finance.
CSI is the Ontario node of Social Innovation Canada, dedicated to advancing the field and practice from coast to coast.
