Whether you’re looking for a weekend spa retreat, romantic getaway or family staycation, Radisson Hotels offers more than a stopover — it’s the destination.

“We want guests to feel connected with the location they’re visiting,” says Sarah Law, regional director of franchise operations for the Americas with Radisson Hotels. “Each hotel team becomes a true host, getting to know their local area. The hotels work with local businesses, along with providing fantastic amenities to create an exceptional experience for their guests.”

That could include a special package, such as romance or wellness, as well as city tours and culinary experiences. “One of the most popular packages in several of our hotels is the wine and microbrewery tours,” Law says. Many hotels also offer pet-friendly packages, so the entire family — even the dog — can come along.

“We find that many Canadians are taking staycations to explore Canada, and we want to be part of that journey,” she says. “Radisson Hotels draws on their sense of place to build memorable moments for guests to have that local experience.” Team members will even put together a list of personal recommendations, such as their favourite spot to eat.

The hotels might also promote special events or festivals happening in their area or partner with local golf courses, recreation centres and entertainment centres.

For example, Radisson Hotel Red Deer has partnered with Damara Day Spa and Medical Aesthetics, which opened its newest full-service location right in the hotel. Here, guests can relax, recharge and experience world-class spa treatments such as massages, facials and pedicures, or workout with a personal trainer in a 6,000-square-foot fitness centre, complete with an indoor pool, steam room, hot tub and juice bar.

For families, the Radisson Kingswood Hotel & Suites in Fredericton has partnered with Kingswood Entertainment Centre, the largest family entertainment facility in Atlantic Canada. This 80,000-square-foot facility includes 30 lanes of bowling, laser tag, arcade games and an indoor play zone featuring a 45-foot-long inflatable obstacle course.

The hotel overlooks Kingswood Golf Course, named the best new golf course in Canada by Golf Digest. Plus, it’s just a 20-minute drive to the picturesque Mactaquac Golf Course on the Saint John River Valley.

Sometimes, though, it’s all about location. At the lakefront Radisson Admiral Hotel Toronto-Harbourfront (being converted into Canada’s first Radisson Blu), guests get the best of both worlds: the serenity of Lake Ontario and the energy of downtown Toronto. Ideal for an urban getaway, the hotel provides easy access to the Rogers Centre, the Toronto Islands and downtown Toronto’s restaurants and nightlife.

“The location is absolutely stellar,” Law says. During the summer months, guests can cool off at the rooftop Lakeview Pool Lounge. “One side overlooks the CN Tower and the other side overlooks the water with a rooftop pool that is spectacular. There’s not a better place in Toronto during the summer.”

The hotels do have one thing in common: They’re designed to be a home away from home. “All of our rooms and furnishings have been chosen and designed to put the guest at ease to provide that restful sleep experience,” Law says. “Even the lighting and colour choices in the guest rooms provide an optimal feeling of warmth and inclusion.”
