Vancouver may be adding another superstar to its rapidly flourishing dining scene.
Jean-Georges Vongerichten is negotiating a new restaurant for the Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver, scheduled to open next year.
"We are in discussions with Jean-Georges, but there is no signed agreement at this time," Shangri-La spokeswoman Jill Killeen confirmed yesterday.
The Alsatian-born chef commands a global empire of 17 restaurants that includes spots in London, Paris and Shanghai, and New York's four-star Jean-Georges Restaurant.
"His food took my breath," former New York Times restaurant critic Ruth Reichl once raved of his Thai-inspired French cuisine.
Earlier this week, Vancouver was named one of the top 10 restaurant cities in the world by Food & Wine magazine, and last month it was announced that Daniel Boulud will be taking over Lumière restaurant.
