Celebrity Photos of the Week: The ever-changing moods of Rihanna (and Mango)

1 of 18

Hello, gorgeous. After only a few hours at the Fashion Designers of America Awards in New York, the pop singer Rihanna is suddenly the most desirable female celebrity on the planet. Now how the heck did that happen?

2 of 18

It happened because Rihanna wore a diaphanous outfit as see-through as a widow’s veil. In fact, all we can show you are her hands. These are Rihanna’s hands

Also at the CFDAs were those once-adorable Full House twins Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, there to represent their successful designer label and possibly the Lollipop Guild

Here we see the actress Blake Lively and her escort for the CFDAs, fashion designer Michael Kors. At least nobody tried to boo Michael Kors off the red carpet

And how about Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o? Never let it be said that the art of American quilt-making is gone and forgotten

Also at the fashion fete was singer Solange Knowles, better known in entertainment circles as Beyoncé’s sister, who couldn’t understand why people kept telling her, ‘Uh, I’ll get the next one’ every time she went near the elevator

And for comic relief, or possibly pathos relief, Chris Kattan resurrected his flamboyant Saturday Night Live persona of Mango for the benefit of CFDA attendees. Ah, well, at least we know the guest list couldn’t get any stranger

But apparently it did. The funereal film director John Waters showed up at the CFDA show but was asked to leave after he frightened the Olsen twins by telling them a house fell on their sister. What a card

Now for a brisk series of random celebrity snapshots from all over the globe. In Ashburn, Va., Matthew McConaughey was at a practice for the Washington Redskins with quarterback Robert Griffin III. Because that’s what Daniel Day-Lewis does after he wins an Oscar, y’all

Next stop: Memphis, Tenn., where comedian Kevin Hart promoted his new film Think Like a Man Too by serving sandwiches at a barbecue joint and taking selfies with fans. Police were called in when Hart followed fans home to ‘tuck them in’

Cut to the city of Rabat in Morocco, where the seventies-era funksters Kool & the Gang were the big names at the annual music festival. Celebrate good times, come on!

Meanwhile in New York, actor Josh Lucas gamely posed for a photo-op with the executives of InterContinental Hotels Group, to launch a contest in which the grand prize is lunch with Josh Lucas. Second prize: Dinner with Josh Lucas

Over in jolly old England, Queen Elizabeth showed some of that old-school pluck by attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace. She even brought her own umbrella. Pip-pip and all that

At the same time in Goole, somewhere in northern England, Prince William tested out his excuse for skipping his grandmum’s garden party to a group of school children. They didn’t buy it

Next up: The French Open in Paris, where the Montreal-born rocker Robert Charlebois was spotted at a semifinals match. Good to see he’s still rocking that perm

In other news, the actor George Segal was forced to grin and bear it after discovering his courtside seats were right beside embattled L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling. Awk-ward!

Also in Los Angeles, the Ukrainian TV reporter Vitalii Sediuk, who last week tried to bum-rush Brad Pitt on a red carpet, pleaded his case for leniency by posing for pictures wearing a suit jacket with mismatched pants. Can you imagine a more egregious fashion mistake?
