Jennifer Lawrence on BBC Radio 1

ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA

Don't hold your breath waiting for Jennifer Lawrence to tweet.

As reported by The Guardian, The Hunger Games star has confirmed that she is not currently on Twitter and has no intention of creating an account in the foreseeable future.

The news of Lawrence's non-social media participation comes, of course, several weeks after she was victimized in a nude photo-hacking scandal that also shared private photos of Kim Kardashian and Rihanna with the online world.

Earlier this week, Lawrence, 24, took part in an interview with BBC Radio 1 along with her Hunger Games co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson to promote the next instalment, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

During the course of the interview, Lawrence was asked by a fan, "Why don't you have Twitter and will you ever get it?"

Lawrence's measured reply: "I will never get Twitter."

But the Oscar-winner was quick to point out her reasons for avoiding Twitter.

"I'm not very good on phones or technology," said Lawrence. "I can not really keep up with e-mails, so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me. I don't really understand what it is; it's this weird enigma that people talk about. And it's fine, I respect that, but no, I will never get a Twitter."

For that matter, Lawrence also dismissed the likelihood of her ever signing up with any form of social-networking.

"And if you ever see a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that says it's me, it most certainly is not," said Lawrence.

At that point in the interview – which can be watched in its entirety here – BBC interviewer Nick Grimshaw slyly noted that Lawrence's firm renouncement of social media was the most serious answer any of the Hunger Games stars had given during the sitdown.

"I had that one locked and loaded," said Lawrence. "It's because the Internet has scorned me so much that I feel like it's like, that girl in high school, that I'm like, 'Oh, you wanna talk about her? Yeah I'll do that. I'm gonna take my hoops off, I'm ready to go.' "

That's as close as Lawrence came to addressing the nude-photo imbroglio, which has come to be known as the "Fappening," during the BBC interview.

Lawrence spoke more directly about the hacking incident last month in an interview with Vanity Fair.

"It is not a scandal," said Lawrence. "It is a sex crime… It is a sexual violation. It's disgusting. The law needs to be changed, and we need to change."

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 arrives in theatres on Nov. 21.

GUEST GIG

Film director Christopher Nolan will guest-edit the next issue of Wired magazine. The director of Insterstellar and the Batman: The Dark Knight movie trilogy will oversee the editorial content going into December issue of the magazine devoted to modern technology. The issue will be dedicated to themes of time, space and multiple dimensions, which not coincidentally have factored into several of Nolan's films, including Inception and Memento. "We wanted to give him license to create a magazine version of the kind of rich, detailed and complex world he builds for his films," said Wired editor-in-chief Scott Dadich.

FOR SALE

Long-lost love letters penned to Marilyn Monroe will be among the items put up for public auction next month. Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, Calif., has more than 300 items that once belonged to the blonde bombshell, who died of a drug overdose in 1962 at age 36. The items include personal letters sent to Monroe from her former husbands, baseball great Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller. In the letter sent by DiMaggio shortly after Monroe announced their breakup, he writes, "I love you and want to be with you. There is nothing I would like better than to restore your confidence in me." Also up for sale is a watercolour painting by Monroe that she intended to give to former U.S. president John F. Kennedy.

NUT JOB

A selfie taken by a B.C. woman with a squirrel is rapidly going viral. Vancouver native Stacey Wallace was roaming the grounds of Manning Park when she spotted the ground squirrel peeking out of its hole. To ensure the perfect picture, Wallace laid down on the ground near the squirrel and slowly crawled towards it. To Wallace's amazement, the creature stayed in position long enough for her to snap a few pictures and then climbed into her arms.

WHAT'S THAT SMELL?

Anderson Cooper was pranked this week on his own "Ridiculist" segment. On Monday night, the CNN news anchor was filming the segment focusing on offbeat news items when he discovered that his co-workers were playing a joke on him. Unbeknownst to him, Cooper's colleagues were unhappy with a foul-smelling candle that he burns in his office. Cooper clued into the gag when the onscreen visuals revealed that night's Ridiculist was titled, "Anderson's Candle Smells Like…." with the options being "Grandma's House," "Old mall," "Italian salad," "Woodstock vomit" and "Garden gnome's underwear drawer." Admitted Cooper: "I should have read it ahead of time."
