Eminem forgives his mother in emotional music video

Eminem has finally forgiven his mother in an emotional music video fittingly released on Mother's Day.

The controversial rapper, who has chronicled his troubled upbringing in songs like Cleanin' Out My Closet and Without Me, shows rare remorse in his new song titled Headlights, in which he makes amends with his mother, Debbie Mathers.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, enlisted Spike Lee to direct the music video for Headlights, which includes lyrics expressing his unhappiness that his own children have never met their grandmother, except once by accident.

The moving video features an actress playing Debbie Mathers and depicts the loneliness of her life as she is purposely excluded from enjoying her superstar son's success and being allowed access to her grandchildren.

At one point in the video, the actress playing Eminem's mother watches her son on television as he performs one of his trademark rap songs.

The video also shows the Mathers matriarch trying to visit her son at his gated compound, where she is turned away by security.

In what might be the video's most heartbreaking moment, the mother figure mistakes a young man wearing a hoodie in the park for her son and tries to embrace him, only to be pushed away.

And Eminem bares his soul in the lyrics for Headlights, which include the lines, "Never thinking about who what I said hurt, in what verse/My mom probably got it the worst/The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we are/Did I take it too far?"

At the same time, the 41-year-old rapper touches fleetingly on his mother's struggles with addiction and mental illness, which resulted in her putting Eminem's young brother Nate in foster care.

From the song: "Then Nate got taken away by the state at eight-years-old/And that's when I realized you were sick and it wasn't fixable or changeable/And to this day we remain estranged and I hate it though."

The video closes with Eminem briefly hugging his mother as she again attempts to approach him in his driveway. The moment is accompanied by his plaintive rap lyrics, "So mom please accept this as a tribute I wrote on this jet, I guess/I had to get this off my chest/I hope I get the chance to lay it 'fore I'm dead."

And the final line: "I'll always love you from afar cause you're my momma."
