Miley Cyrus performs during the opening show of the Bangerz Tour, on Friday Feb. 14, 2014 in Vancouver, Canada.

Miley Cyrus believes there are worse things for your brain than marijuana – like, say, social media.

As reported by Yahoo News, the Wrecking Ball singer recently said that using social media sites like Facebook and Instagram was more harmful to a person's health than smoking weed.

During her appearance on the Australian TV program Sunday Night, Cyrus, 21, was asked by host Chris Bath about her most recent tattoo, which reads "love your brain."

And with that slightest of provocations, Ms. Miley went off on a rant.

"You know what hurts your brain?" asked Cyrus. "Googling yourself. You know what hurts your brain? Instagram. You know what hurts your brain? Reading comments on Facebook. You know what hurts your brain? Reading Us Weekly."

Added Cyrus: "I put some pictures of me smoking weed…on my Instagram because I was brought up in the way that we never thought marijuana was bad."

In the same interview, Cyrus likened herself to the late, great Elvis Presley.

"Elvis, he wasn't wearing the outfits I was wearing but he was coming out and he was doing like the OG [Original Gangster] twerking. Like, no one wants to admit he was twerking, but he was."

Of course Elvis never had to deal with social media and online haters.

Cyrus also pointed out that she is simply living her life and shouldn't be considered a role model.

"I don't put myself up on a pedestal and say 'look at me I'm an example,'" she said. "The only thing I'm an example of is freedom, especially in this time where the energy of the world is shifting from male energy to female energy."

In other Miley news, Jesse Helt - the homeless young manCyrus sent onstage to accept her Video of the Year trophy at last week's MTV Video Music Awards – has turned himself in to police in Oregon.

Helt, 22, was booked on a probation violation warrant and posted $2,500 (U.S.) bail.

The court records show Helt pleaded guilty to misdemeanour criminal mischief and trespass several years back after breaking into the apartment of a man he believed to be selling "bad marijuana."

Ah, the circle of Miley's life.
