Mark down the date: The Toronto International Film Festival has decreed that September 5 will officially be Bill Murray Day.
As reported by CTV News, TIFF organizers announced their intention to dedicate a full day of this year's filmfest to the famously wiseacre comic actor.
Accordingly, the big day will include free public screenings of Murray's most memorable films, including Stripes, Groundhog Day and, naturally, Ghostbusters at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in downtown Toronto.
But the best part of Bill Murray Day: Bill Murray himself will be in town for the public adulation.
The 63-year-old actor is scheduled to attend this year's TIFF in support of his newest film St. Vincent, in which he plays a besotted war veteran whose new single-mom neighbor (Melissa McCarthy) somehow coerces him into babysitting her meek 12-year-old son (Jaeden Lieberher).
Tickets to the free movie screenings will be available at the Bell Lightbox on a first-come basis starting at 8 a.m. ET. on September 5.
Fans who attend all three movies will be eligible to enter a contest to win a ticket to the world premiere of St. Vincent in Los Angeles in October.
Of course, considering Murray's peculiar penchant for randomly dropping into college student soirees and bachelor parties, don't be surprised if he shows up at one or all of the screenings.
And with any luck, David Letterman and Lady Gaga might join him for another selfie.
CASHING IN
Talk about art imitating life: The man profiled in the Oscar-nominated film The Wolf of Wall Street is co-writing a TV series chronicling the excesses of Wall Street in the eighties. Jordan Belfort, who was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2013 movie, is currently penning the script for the untitled series with director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour) and Australian billionaire James Packer. In a recent interview with The Australian, Belfort said, "The idea was to come up with a show about that period with really interesting characters." No broadcast outlet has yet expressed interest in the series.

SELFIE TIME
Tina Fey and her former Mean Girls co-star Lindsay Lohan recently reunited for a selfie. The pair got together in New York earlier this week, which resulted in Lohan posting the photo to her Instagram account with the caption, "Lovely running into an inspiring, funny beautiful old friend!!!!" The reunion came a few months after the 10-year anniversary of Mean Girls, which was written by Fey and starred Lohan as a naïve teenager who falls in with a catty high-school clique. Fey also appeared in the film as Ms. Norbury, a nerdy but supportive math teacher.

NO APOLOGIES
Matthew McConaughey makes no apologies for wearing a fanny pack. Earlier this week, photos of the Oscar-winning actor sporting the dated fashion accessory at a baseball game in Boston went viral online. When asked about the incident during an interview with a Houston TV station, McConaughey said, "I'm not afraid of the fanny pack. You gotta put it on the side to make it look a little not as nerdy, but still, practicality wins out." McConaughey, also a best actor in a drama nominee at next week's Emmy Awards for True Detective, also believes the fanny pack will eventually return to public acceptance. "They'll come back, some decade from now," he said.

TAKING THE PLUNGE
The Foo Fighters have put their own spin on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. On Tuesday, Foo front man Dave Grohl posted a video to YouTube that borrows directly from the horror film Carrie. In the video, Grohl wears a tiara and prom dress while appearing on-stage with drummer Taylor Hawkins, while band mates Pat Smear and Nate Mendel snigger shamelessly in the wings. The payoff comes when Grohl is drenched with a torrent of ice water and then morphs into the telekinetic Carrie. After the challenge, Grohl challenged John Travolta (who appeared in the 1976 version of Carrie), Jack Black and author Stephen King (who wrote the original book) to take the Ice Bucket Challenge.

MEA CULPA
Jackie Chan has publicly apologized for his son's recent arrest in China for marijuana possession. Last week, Chan's son Jaycee, 31, was caught in a drug crackdown and arrested for having 3.5 ounces of weed at his Beijing residence. On Tuesday, his famous father went onto his personal website to state, "When I first heard the news, I was absolutely enraged… As a public figure, I feel very ashamed; as his dad, I'm very sad and disappointed. But the person who feels heartbroken the most is his mom." Added Chan: "On behalf of Jaycee and myself, I extend our deepest apologies to everyone for the negative impact this has caused on society. Thank you."
