The question

I have some natural curl in my hair and normally use a round brush to straighten it out. But when the weather gets hot and humid, this technique isn't enough to keep my hair from doing a full Diana Ross. How can I tame it without relying too heavily on products?

The answer

Your first line of defence against frizz is hydrating your hair as much as possible, so apply a hydrating product, such as Moroccanoil Treatment, to towel-dried hair and comb it through. Follow this with a loonie-sized amount of styling cream meant for this kind of job, such as Marc Anthony's Keratin Smoothing Blow Dry Cream, which helps lock in moisture and block out humidity; dry with a round brush to get the majority of the kinks out and then pull out your straightening iron.

Using an iron with tourmaline plates will ensure that your hair is especially frizz-free: These plates release way more negative ions, which reduce the frizz factor and leave hair smooth and shiny, than, say, ceramic plates. Your last line of defence is a few drops of hair oil, which you should lightly smooth over the hair, thereby helping to stay-proof your straight locks in all that heat.
