Is there a special trick for curling your lashes? I always seem to clamp down too hard, making them squarish instead of round.

There is indeed a trick to properly curling ones lashes: It's actually a three-step process and not just a one-clamp one. First, start at the base of the lashes and pump and hold for just a few moments, then release and move the curler up to about the midway point of the lashes and repeat. Finally, you'll want, if your lashes are long enough, to curl between the middle and ends of your lashes, which helps create more of a curve rather than that hard, square look you describe. I'd also recommend using the best of the best when it comes to lash curlers for precision and longevity. A makeup-artist favourite is the Shu Uemura lash curler, which is available at Holt Renfrew locations across Canada.
