Kat Von D Beauty Saint and Sinner Eyeshadow Palette, $83 at Sephora (www.sephora.com).
With a cruelty-free and vegan formulation, the 24 shades in this ornate limited-edition palette were inspired by a stained-glass window. These velvety shadows are highly pigmented for maximum colour payoff, and honour everyone's "inner duality."
How it works
The 12 saintly shades on the left side of the palette are soft and romantic, including a dusty rose, muted coral and grape purple, while the 12 sinner shades on the right make a bold statement in saffron, lime, black and more. A variety of metallic, matte and pearlescent finishes deliver a range of textures and tones, while two super-glimmery shades add light-reflecting dimension.
How to use it
Find inspiration in the array of hues to create your unique look, depending on whether you're feeling like a saint, a sinner or somewhere in between.
The bottom line
When I met Kat Von D a few years back, she told me all about her home in West Hollywood, so I figured a week-long stay in the City of Angels would be the best time to try out her extensive new eyeshadow palette. The flattering "Saint" shades injected some playfulness into my look at lunch meetings on Ventura and Abbot Kinney, but it was during my nights out – when I had time to experiment with the "Sinner" shades – that things really got interesting. I layered the rich blue "Ministry" with magenta "Rapture" for a night at a members' club on Sunset, and chose the deep purple "Exorcism" for a rooftop pool party downtown. Applied over a primer, these shadows stayed put all night and the hue saturation was divine, even when my activities were not.
