The question

Even after beach weather passes, I continue to wax my bikini line, but I'm wondering if I should try body sugaring? And what about threading?

The answer

First, let me answer your threading question: Don't do it, at least when it comes to your bikini area.

Threading is akin to tweezers removing 15 hairs at once, which, for smaller areas such as the eyebrows, can be quick and effective, but a long, painful process when applied to larger jobs.

Sugaring, meanwhile, is, many feel, less painful than waxing: You don't have to heat the sugar paste up in a pot like a wax (hence no burn marks from overheated wax drips) and sugar paste doesn't adhere to your skin the way wax does (meaning that it won't remove skin cells along with the hair and you'll suffer less pain and irritation as a result).

Over the years, I have tried both waxing and sugaring and both methods hurt equally, although the aftermath of sugaring held less drama than waxing. I had fewer ingrown hairs, no scars from overheated wax, no paper strips and wooden applicators all over the place. And it's environmentally friendly. So I would definitely give sugaring a try. Who knows, you might end up a convert.
