Of the wacky prints that sprang up this season – Prada's was literally and figuratively bananas, Stella McCartney's were spiked with citrus fruit – colourful graphics and stripes are among the best bets when it comes to office dressing. Don't be afraid to mix it up with more than one bold, bright piece. Here's how to get – and deliver – the most punch.

1. Win with primaries. As Prada did at its spring presentation, opt for primary shades when pairing pieces over plain black, which will just look too harsh and solemn with so much animated colour.

2. When pairing anything with stripes, avoid anything too busy like florals. Play it safe with either thicker striped pieces or a print comprised of geometric shapes, such as the one shown here. Anything too teeny-tiny will look awkward and out of place with bold graphics.

3. Yes, this look can be loud. Given this, tone it down by keeping accessories to a minimum, if you wear any at all. Ground it with a pair of heels and wedges in black or navy.
