How to pull off: funky stripes Add to ...

Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable may have been a model patriarch, but who would have thought that the good-natured family man would serve up fashion inspiration along with fatherly wisdom? For spring, crops of funky fresh striped knits call to mind Bill Cosby's iconic pullovers. Here's how to wear them as an authority in the boardroom instead of the living room.

1. Anchor the look with black trousers, shoes and jacket, much like Prada did for spring (above left). It will ground all that colour and make the look more polished and therefore acceptable for cubicles.

2. Look for finer-gauge fabrications, such as light merino wool. These will translate into a much more modern, professional vibe and offer the option to layer with a crisp shirt and tie.

3. Refrain from picking through the surplus of Mr. Cosby's signature knit knockoffs at your local Goodwill. This season, the look is less literal. Opt for cleaner, more graphic stripes as opposed to crazy squiggles and sparkles. Your career will thank you.
