Party photos of the week: Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards
Fashion’s finest took over the Royal York on Feb. 1 to fete the inaugural Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, where the country’s leading designers, stylists and models were recognized for their achievements. Co-founder Brittney Kuczynski employed a predictable set of local ambassadors, like Suzanne Rogers and Sylvia Mantella, to sit on the jury and lead the nominating committee. Big names such as Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared2, who were flown in from Milan, won for outstanding achievement and Coco Rocha (who gave a heartwarming speech about how she aims to be a role model and not just any old model), was named model of the year. While many of the industry’s lifers were recognized, some of the brightest were disappointingly left off the bill, like photographer Norman Wong. Beyond the glitzy event, the evening culminated in a $10,000 cash prize for emerging designer Sarah Stevenson, who will engage in a mentorship program with honorary chair Joe Mimran. parties@globeandmail.com
