Party photos of the week: The Theatre Centre’s Bounce gala
It was selfie central on Saturday night when Mayor Rob Ford showed up at the The Theatre Centre’s Bounce gala. As he was tucked in the corner of the new Queen Street West spot with his wife Renata, partygoers – including local entrepreneur Richard Lambert – fearlessly approached the mayor, who happily posed for photos. The new cultural centre, in the historic Carnegie Library space, will be a “live arts hub and incubator” opening later this year. Actor and director Don McKellar kicked off the evening and gave a poignant speech on how live theatre is essential now, more than ever, as people become further entrenched in the digital world and social media. The night was full of surprises with pop-up performances, musicians and dancers in Baroque period costume, an interactive blindfold dance by bluemouth inc., and a flash-mob choral performance led by Juliet Palmer. The evening raised more than $130,000, which will support the final leg of renovations to the building. parties@globeandmail.com
