Infused gummy bears and a futuristic truffle slicer are some of the gifts on our extravagant list this year

Bear necessity

Sugarfina 24-karat gold Champagne bears, $150 through www.sugarfina.ca.

German candy company Sugarfina has elevated the humble gummy bear to extravagant new heights, infusing a limited-edition collection with the (non-alcoholic) flavour of Dom Pérignon and hand gilding them with flecks of 24-karat edible gold.

High times

Ao Yun 2013, $460 at the LCBO ( www.lcbo.com).

Produced in picturesque Himalayan vineyards nearly 8,000 feet above sea level – Ao Yun translates to "roaming above the clouds" – the first release of this rare vintage is 90 per cent cabernet sauvignon with a touch of cabernet franc.

Slice of life

Alessi Alba truffle slicer, $135 through www.alessi.com.

With a precise 18-degree angle between the handle and blade, this futuristic truffle slicer reinvents a 17 th-century utensil. Its twisted steel silhouette was inspired by the intertwining tree roots where the finest Alba truffles are found.

Swish swig

S’well Swarovski Alina water bottle, $1,920 at Holt Renfrew ( www.holtrenfew.com).

While the benefits of staying hydrated are well known, in practice, sipping water all day can be a bore. Covered lid-to-bottom in Swarovski crystals, S'well's 500-millilitre bottle turns getting eight glasses of H2O a day into a fancier affair.
