Gordon Ramsay's Montreal eatery evacuated hours after grand opening

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's first Canadian restaurant was evacuated Wednesday night, hours after it first opened its doors in Montreal.

The restaurant, called Laurier Gordon Ramsay, issued a statement saying it experienced a malfunction with its sprinkler equipment.

It said the situation is under control and that the restaurant sustained very limited damage.

The restaurant, a Montreal landmark once known as Rotisserie Laurier BBQ, also apologized "to all affected customers for the incident."

Ramsay, a 44-year-old Scottish-born chef, is internationally renowned through a string of acclaimed restaurants and popular cookbooks.

He is also known for his scorching profanity on high-rated cooking TV shows.
