Toronto's Yorkdale Shopping Centre is set for a sweet infusion with the arrival of luxury French patisserie Ladurée in December. Founded more than 150 years ago in Paris, Ladurée is the global pastry phenomenon best known for its pastel-coloured macarons and elegant packaging. Yorkdale marks the third Canadian location for the brand, following the opening of two downtown Vancouver outposts – a 1,100-square-foot boutique and 23-seat tea salon on Robson Street, and a smaller, 18-seat tea salon inside Vancouver's Holt Renfrew.
If the two-hour lineups outside Vancouver's first boutique are any indication, Toronto's Ladurée will attract countless shoppers and sugar fans alike with more than 1,000 square feet of retail space and a 26-seat dine-in area set inside the shopping centre's luxury wing. "Our goal is to deliver a world-class shopping experience, and Ladurée will offer a taste of the Champs-Élysées alongside the world's best-known fashion brands," says Claire Santamaria, Yorkdale's general manager.
Ladurée has over 100 boutiques around the world, reaching as far as Australia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea. Toronto's first shop, styled by the company's in-house design team, will feature the brand's signature marble countertops, metallic touches and accents in rose, mint green and powder blue. In addition to Ladurée's iconic confections, the boutique will stock chocolates, jams, honeys, specialty teas, candles and room fragrances as well, along with branded accessories such as books, key chains and shopping totes. For a broader culinary experience, visitors can sip tea, coffee and cocktails in the salon while nibbling on French delights including finger sandwiches, croque monsieur and pain perdu. Bon appétit!
