Destined to be the home base for Hollywood transplants craving a bit of California, Montecito, the new restaurant backed by director Ivan Reitman and chef Jonathan Waxman, is threatening to out-hype TIFF itself. A lot of that buzz is a result of its drink menu, which includes The Beekeeper, a pared-down and elegant sour. The sip capitalizes on the terroir trend – its honey syrup can be made by heating equal parts local honey and water and then letting it cool – and the wild popularity of Irish whisky.

Ingredients

1 1/2 ounces Irish pot whisky

3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice

3/4 ounce Rosewood honey syrup

2 dashes Montecito floral bitters

Method

Shake whisky, juice and syrup over ice. Strain into a chilled glass and add a couple of dashes of bitters.
