Surprise! You can have real chocolate flavour without having chocolaty utensils to wash. This cake is amazingly easy to make – and with its baked-on topping goes to the cottage in its own pan. You can sift the flour with the baking soda and salt if you like, but it's not really necessary.

Servings: Makes nine squares

1/3 cup salad oil

2 ounces (2 squares) unsweetened chocolate cup water

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla to 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/3 cup broken walnuts

In an 8-inch square cake pan, combine oil and chocolate. Heat in 350 F. oven for about four minutes, until chocolate melts. Stir to combine.

Add water, sugar, egg, flour, soda, salt and vanilla. Beat with a fork until smooth, uniform and creamy, about two minutes. Spread evenly in the pan and sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts.

Bake cake at 350 F. for about 40 minutes, until just starting to draw from sides of pan and until cake tests done. Cool and cut in the pan.
