At this price, I don’t expect much, at least not from California. But the skilled wine engineers at Gallo are a resourceful bunch. This is an unpretentious red aimed at the mass market, eager to please and, like not enough people on social media these days, determined not to offend. Medium-full, it’s smooth, with flavours of currant and raspberry jam, vanilla and cigar box. A party wine. Available in Ontario at the above price, $15.99 in New Brunswick (on sale for $13.99).
