wine review

With apologies to Starbucks’s Pumpkin Spice Latte, but if autumn could be a beverage, it would be Calvados, the apple brandy from Normandy in northern France. This one does the category proud, capturing great depth of flavour and warmth with sophisticated balance. The up-front apple essence is sublime and combines with suggestions of orange marmalade, vanilla ice cream, caramel, peppery spice and tobacco-like earthiness. Available in Ontario at the price below, $49.50 in Quebec.
