wine review

The craft-beer world has been awash in West Coast-style India Pale Ales for some time. How refreshing, then, to catch this one from left field. Or, literally, Left Field, the east-Toronto brewery that’s fond of its baseball allusions. A double IPA weighing in at 8-per-cent alcohol, it’s as solidly bitter as most classic West Coast examples, but it’s brewed with a Vermont yeast strain known for producing a boldly fruity mid-palate. Silky smooth, it offers up flavours of peach, bitter grapefruit, orange marmalade and hints of nuts and pine needle. Well-played, Left Field. Available in select Ontario LCBO stores.
