This is billed as “The Official Beer of Letterkenny,” a reference to the Canadian sitcom on CraveTV about the fictional town of Letterkenny, Ontario. There’s a dog on the can, part of the marketing conceit that includes the line: “It’s a faithful friend that will always be by your side. Pure. Loyal. Golden.”

The beer is made by Stack Brewing of Sudbury, the real-life location where Letterkenny is filmed, which is an admirable nod to the region. Pale-golden, dry and crisp, this displays a nicely creamy weight that places it on craft turf rather than multinational-lager territory, though it weighs in at a mere 4-per-cent alcohol, with a Premium Plus-cracker essence, earthy note and subtle malty roundness. Well done for what the TV show might refer to as a “hick” beer.
