From an exacting Vancouver Island producer, this gris was made entirely from estate fruit (in contrast to some other wineries, which bottle fruit from the Okanagan on the mainland). The island was blessed with a good growing season in 2009, and it shows here. A classic pinot gris essence of pear comes through well, carried on a texture that’s initially round and smooth, turning attractively chalky and dry on the finish. It would match substantial fish dishes, including salmon. Available online: averillcreek.ca.
