Wine review: Evans & Tate Metricup Road Shiraz 2010, Australia

Margaret River
Food Pairing
Grilled or roasted lamb, venison

Classically jammy Aussie shiraz it may be, but this hails from Margaret River not far from Perth on the country's western coast. It's cooler there than in the vast wine plains of the southeast. Lower temperatures ensure the grapes don't get fat and lazy the way they can sitting around in the baking sun, and this full-bodied red shows a strong acid spine. Name your berry – it's here. So is a good measure of cedary oak along with fine-grained, chewy tannins. Perfect for grilled or roast lamb or game meats such as venison; $19.99 in B.C., various prices in Alberta.
