Beer review: Tree Brewing Mellow Moon Pineapple Hefeweizen, British Columbia

$5.35/650 ml

Did someone say "summer?" I suspect they were looking for an easier way to say "Mellow Moon Pineapple Hefeweizen." This beer has it all, seasonally speaking. It's made by Tree Brewing of Kelowna, B.C., which has been fermenting fine suds since the early days of British Columbia craft brewing, circa 1996. A limited-edition, seasonal wheat ale, it's lighter than the standard all-barley fare, with an inviting cloudy golden yellow appearance that betrays its unfiltered beauty. Added pineapple and citrus flavourings give it a rounded, fruity core, yet it never strays far from home; this is grain-first beer, not fruit punch. Or you could think of it as a pineapple sandwich.
