A blend of negroamaro and malvasia nera from southern Italy, this full-bodied red is ripe and almost off-dry with sweetness. But the rich raisin-like essence is kept admirably in check by fresh acidity, a dusting of herbs and a touch of bitterness reminiscent of dark chocolate. Good value and perfect for barbecued ribs or chili. Available in Ontario.
