wine review

The name creates intrigue and so does the label of this 750-millilitre swing-top bottle. A peculiar sort of bird is pictured (sorry, I'm not good with birds, but it looks to me like a vulture crossed with a peacock sporting antlers festooned with leaves). The beer's ingredients sound like the random harvest of a forest troll: heather tips, juniper berries and orange peel. There's also Belgian candi sugar (common to strong Belgian beers) and Belgian yeast. Medium-full-bodied (at 8-per-cent alcohol) and creamy, with a persistent head, it offers up citrus, licorice and clove flavours reminiscent of a wheat beer. Available for a limited time in Ontario. Great for a summer's day, especially with grilled trout or spicy marinated shellfish.
