Sunbrook congratulates the Burn Centre Staff of the Ross Tilley Burn Centre; for the ABA verification they recently received form the American Burn Association.

On April 2nd, Sunnybrook officially congratulated the Ross Tilley Burn Centre for the Verification they received recently from the American Burn Association (ABA). This is a highly significant accomplishment as the Ross Tilley Burn Centre is the only centre in Canada to receive this distinction, and one of only two centres outside the United States to be ABA Verified.

Sunnybrook's Burn Centre is truly a significant and leading resource for the health care system and each year cares for the majority of major burn victims in Ontario. The research and teaching conducted in the Centre are world-renowned and are seen as the national standard for burn care in Canada.

There is an interesting history with the Burn Centre, which dates back to the Second World War when Dr. Ross Tilley was Principal Medical Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He became widely recognized for pioneering new techniques in treating burns and also re-integrating burn patients into the community.

When the Burn Centre joined Sunnybrook, it was a natural fit given the Hospital's standing as the country's first and largest Trauma Centre. Since that time, the Centre's contributions to traumatic burn and critical care, both in research and clinical activity, have been invaluable. As the largest single site for critical care resources in the country, Sunnybrook has benefited greatly from the integration of the Burn Centre and it is not surprising to see it become an international leader.
